Celebrating the holidays wouldn’t be complete without ice skating. If you’re lucky enough to be in New York City this winter, there are plenty of festive ice rinks to get you in the holiday spirit. There’s “The Rink” at Rockefeller Center, the “crown jewel” of Bryant Park’s winter village, and Wollman Rink in Central Park—to name a few. If you’re looking for a new place to lace your skates, get excited, because the TWA Hotel is opening an ice skating rink on its tarmac.

The only on-airport hotel at JFK, TWA Hotel opened earlier this year in the former, Eero Saarinen-designed TWA terminal, which was landmarked in 1994. The hotel’s mid-century modern architecture and decor are a trip back to the sixties. On November 30, it will offer one more amenity: the “Runway Rink.” The ice will be made with 3,500 gallons of New York City tap water and will surround the hotel’s vintage airplane-turned-cocktail lounge (this hotel really knows how to repurpose). And if gliding on ice isn’t a festive enough, there will also be skating shows inspired by the plane’s history in Alaska.

The rink will be open seven days a week until the end of February, so you’ll have plenty of time to head to Queens and skate on New York’s newest ice rink. And it won’t break your bank! Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for kids under 12. Ice skates can be rented for $10 and $8 for kids under $12.

Hmm, a layover at JFK actually sounds like fun.
