Twins, Kyle Garlick avoid arbitration

After hitting .233 with nine home runs and 18 RBIs in an injury plagued season, Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick has declined arbitration and agreed to a one-year, $750,000 contract for 2023.

Garlick, 27, was placed on the 10-injured list three times last season for hamstring, rib cage and wrist injuries and played in only 66 games. He played both corner spots in the outfield, pinch-hit against lefties and made a handful of starts as the designated hitter. Against lefties, he hit .243 with six home runs and 12 RBIs.

Among Twins players eligible for arbitration are infielder and American League batting champion Luis Arraez, reliever Jorge Alcala, starter Tyler Mahle, reliever Emilio Pagan and third baseman Gio Urshela.

Teams and players have until Jan. 13 to agree to terms; after that date, the sides must each submit a contract proposal for an arbitration hearing in February, although the sides can continue to negotiate before the hearing is held.
