Twinsburg, Stow win to set up district semifinal; Hudson soccer, Copley volleyball cruise

Division I, Northeast 2 Sectional Final

Twinsburg 10, Chardon 0

The top-seeded Tigers (14-0-3) played like the favorite Thursday at Tigers Stadium. Twinsburg scored early and often to rout the 22nd-seeded Hilltoppers (6-12-1).

Twinsburg forward Bree Banach, forward Arriah Gilmer, midfielder Breanna Utrup and reserve forward Carolyn Kramer each scored two goals for Twinsburg. Senior forward Jadyn Harris was a constant threat, finishing with a goal and two assists.

"We were very happy with the way they executed the passes and executed the finishing," Twinsburg coach John Garber said. "I thought they were excellent at times. When you're in the playoffs, sometimes you don't get that many chances. We did a good job with it."

Twinsburg plays sixth-seeded Stow (8-5-4) on Monday at 7 p.m. in a district semifinal.

The Bulldogs had no problem against 27th-seeded Willoughby South in a 7-1 win.

In the other side of the bracket, eighth-seeded Lake beat 12th-seeded Nordonia, 4-0.

The Blue Streaks will play ninth-seeded GlenOak.

Division I, Northeast 1 Sectional Finals

Hudson 5, Cuyahoga Falls 1

The fourth-seeded Explorers (11-4-2) advanced to a district final where they’ll play 10th-seeded Mentor (7-7-4) on Monday thanks to Peyton Pierce (3 goals.).

Reagan Miele had a goal and assist and Mady Cline added two helpers. Maya Lake scored the final goal for Hudson.

Natalie Polidoro scored for the 20th-seeded Black Tigers (7-10-2).

Jackson 6, Ellet 0

Emily Adams had a hat trick for the third-seeded Polar Bears (9-4-4) to knock the 15th-seeded Orangemen (15-3) out of the tournament. Up next, is a district semifinal Monday against 14th-seeded Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin.

Division I, Northeast District 3 Sectional Finals

Walsh Jesuit 9, Eastlake North 0

Hannah Pachan (2 goals), Audrey Amsden, Avery Hutchinson, Addison Blair, Gabi Huryn, Morgan Graham, Kayla Flory and Lauren Ziemianski scored for the second-seeded Warriors (13-2-2) in this win over the 26th-seeded Rangers. Walsh plays 17th-seeded Kent Roosevelt on Monday. The Rough Riders beat 16th-seeded Riverside, 2-1.

Fifth-seeded Green beat 21st-seeded Madison, 5-0 on the other side of the bracket. The Bulldogs will face seventh-seeded Warren Howland.

Division I, Northeast 5 Sectional Finals

Second-seeded Medina beat 30th-seeded Normandy 10-0 and 16th-seeded Revere knocked out 17th-seeded Midview 3-0 to set up a district semifinal between the two Monday at Medina.

Division II, Northeast 3 Sectional Final

Copley 25-25-25, Orange 12-10-9

Third-seeded Copley (17-6) dispatched the 30th-seeded Lions behind Kayla Kemer (22 digs) and Shelby Emich (18 assists, 14 points). Up next, is a district semifinal on Wednesday against second-seeded Holy Name.

Division II, Northeast 4 Sectional Final

Tallmadge 25-25-25, Oberlin Firelands 17-12-8

The ninth-seeded Blue Devils upset the eighth-seeded Falcons thanks to Zoe Rensel (9 kills, 6 assists), Lexi Gray (22 assists) and Maya Dexter (23 digs). They’ll face third-seeded Bay on Wednesday. The Rockets beat 10th-seeded Coventry, 25-25-19-25, 17-19-25-13.

Division II Northeast 5 Sectional Final

Norton 25-25-25, Hubbard 16-17-19

The 12th-seeded Panthers posted their first sectional title since 2004 with a 3-set win over 27th-seeded Hubbard. Norton faces 16th-seeded Cloverleaf on Wednesday.

FOOTBALL

Nordonia 33, Cleveland Benedictine 19

Brenden Hermensky returned two interceptions for touchdowns and Connell Rafferty made four field goals and three extra point kicks to guide the visiting Knights (8-2) to a win over the Bengals (0-10).

Rafferty converted field-goal attempts of 20, 34, 28 and 25 yards.

Nordonia quarterback Joey Palinkas threw a 18-yard touchdown pass to Devin Tufts in the second quarter.

Palinkas finished 16 of 28 passing for 236 yards. Tufts had seven receptions for 106 yards.

Nordonia’s Israel Petite grabbed one interception. Asher Wilson, Kieran Bell, Tucker Rusk, Vinnie Schiavone, Craig Aiken and Jordan Byrd each had a sack.

East 50, Ellet 8

Visiting East (6-4, 4-1) finished the regular season with a win over City Series rival Ellet (4-6, 2-3).

East built a 20-0 lead by the end of the first quarter with Derald Mitchell rushing for a 20-yard touchdown, Justin Cox throwing a 39-yard touchdown pass to Luther Darisaw and Tristan Thomas returning a punt 77 yards for a touchdown.

Ellet’s Jake Flossie threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Brown to cut Ellet’s deficit to 20-8 in the second quarter.

East then scored the final 30 points to erase any doubt on the outcome.

Cox connected with Darisaw on a 29-yard touchdown pass and Mike Hall ran 9 yards for a TD in the second quarter.

East scored two touchdowns in the second half with Thomas sprinting 67 yards to the end zone and Mitchell running 13 yards for a TD.
