Twisted Steaks food truck to open Plumsted restaurant

Sometimes, what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas.

Years ago, longtime friends Andrew Agostinacchio and David Langhurst were visiting Las Vegas — a place where they love to eat — and had the idea for a cheesesteak business. But not just plain cheesesteaks: Theirs would be on pretzels.

Back home in the New Egypt section of Plumsted, Agostinacchio and Langhurst, who previously had corporate careers, launched Twisted Steaks as a tent operation at Columbus Flea Market (Burlington County) in August 2017, said Agostinacchio's wife, Miriam.

"They played around and played around until they came up with what we think is the best cheesesteak," she said of the sandwich, which is served on a hand-twisted soft pretzel. "It's very unique, it's a great combination."

Twisted Steaks expanded to a trailer, then a food truck. They weathered the pandemic by serving hungry folks — "We just parked and fed people," Miriam said — and catered for companies like the New York Jets.

In February, they will open a restaurant in the former Sweet Carolina Barbecue Company space on Main Street.

"We knew we wanted to stay local," said Miriam, adding that they plan to open the restaurant on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The menu is being finalized, though everything they make on the food trucks will be available — and then some. There's ribeye and chicken cheesesteaks, chicken cheesesteaks with bacon and ranch, pizza cheesesteaks, and bacon barbecue cheesesteaks. Other items include cheesesteak eggrolls, Buffalo chicken eggrolls, and waffle fries topped with steak, bacon and melted cheese.

The restaurant, which can seat about 25 diners, will be open daily for lunch and dinner. Takeout and delivery will be available.

Fans of the food trucks need not worry.

"Both trucks are staying on the road," Miriam said.
