Twisting off: Abilenians watch 'Twister' at the Paramount, play Twister at Sockdolager's

Twisted tea?

Or Twisted Sister?

Both could be enjoyed Friday in Abilene, along with seeing the movie "Twister" at the Paramount Theatre or participating in games of Twister at Sockdolager Brewing Co.

But probably not both since the events came off at about the same time in the early evening.

The Paramount concluded a viewers' choice week of nightly films with the 1996 adventure film.

At the brew pub, folks played board games and enjoyed a cold one, pausing to play the body tangling game that hardly does anything for self esteem. It also was PJ night, and some folks actually showed up in nightwear. Including seven-month beer server Colton Juarez and Sockdolager team member Nic Nicolato.

Calling the colors for positioning was Nicole Meiron, who wore fuzzy slippers with her PJs. Her husband, Will, is on the Sockdolager team.

They had hoped to show "The Mummy" - thinking mummies wore the original PJs - on a screen inside, but opted for one of the "Mission Impossible" movies.

That worked, too. We sure could use Ethan Hunt to solve the case of the missing rain.

Without any twisters, of course.
