Twitter fumes over botched call by referees in Wisconsin-Purdue game

Is the length of a football field 100 yards?

Or 99?

Inquiring minds wanted to know during the fourth quarter of the game between Wisconsin and Purdue at Camp Randall Stadium Saturday.

On fourth-and-goal from the Wisconsin 1, Purdue running back Devin Mockobee appeared to be stuffed by the Wisconsin defense about a foot short of the end zone.

The referees ruled it a touchdown.

Badgers interim coach Jim Leonhard was livid and a replay ensued.

Somehow, someway the call stood.

You be the judge.

“I thought we made a great play," said Leonhard after his team's 35-24 victory. "Obviously, it's about as close as it gets.

“They said they didn't have a view straight down the goal line, which leads me to the question of, Why? Why is it not straight down the goal line?

“They didn't have enough to overturn it. I don't agree with it, but it doesn't really matter.”

This botched call created a stir on Twitter.

Here is some of the reaction.

As a side note, UW fans did not pelt the field with prescription glasses.
