Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Wednesday, as long expected, declared that he's running to be the next president.
The announcement made via a Twitter Spaces chat with Elon Musk, crashed multiple times as a few hundred thousand users signed on to listen, garnering a cornucopia of opinions from Sunshine State residents to celebrities.
In addition to a barrage of tweets about the glitches, commentary touched on multiple facets of DeSantis from what critics call his extreme laws that have prompted travel advisories from organizations such as the NAACP and the Human Rights Coalition to his electability compared to former president Donald Trump.

Here's a slice of how people reacted on Twitter:
The media was convinced that there was no way Trump would win in 2016. Yet, he succeeded.

As the Twitter Spaces for Elon Musk to launch the Ron DeSantis presidential campaign experienced a failure to launch, here is all you need to know about the wannabe president, and currently Governor DeSantis. Is #DeSantis presidential campaign a #DeSaster? pic.twitter.com/yA5ssSiD9z

Governor DeSantis has amassed a record of indoctrination, most recently rejecting dozens of social studies textbooks that include history he does not want taught. That is NOT “American exceptionalism” governor. That is state-sponsored whitewashing and indoctrination. ✊🏽🇺🇸🇺🇦 pic.twitter.com/J3hsOtE513

It makes sense that Team DeSantis is trying to spin a malfunctioning website as a complete success.

So, if Gov. DeSantis' announcement tonight on Twitter Space was the failure Trump is trying to say it was, why are insiders in Trump world immediately saying Trump is coming back to Twitter and going to do "a lot" of Spaces?
Sounds like Governor DeSantis was a great success… pic.twitter.com/0n8Vlci3Dw— Florida Native (@OliviaFLNative) May 25, 2023
Whose campaign launch was weaker: President Biden who taped a video or Governor DeSantis who did a glitchy live Twitter Space kick off?

"At every turn since he became governor, DeSantis has prioritized the wrong things. He heralds his dangerous agenda as a “blueprint” for the rest of the country and claims that his policies are making Floridians “more free,” but the opposite is true." https://t.co/3sET5LPYhb

I love that Governor DeSantis led this state through COVID as a free state. Nationally, I think all the attacks made people think he's a firebrand. Now you know, he's boring af. I don't mind but hard to imagine him reaching people across strata like Trump does.

Forgive me, I may be wrong. I have been wrong many times in life, and I may be wrong here again. But it's my belief as I write this that @GovRonDeSantis, who will be joining the presidential race today to face other @GOP contenders such as @realDonaldTrump, is taking a big… pic.twitter.com/x3a68GxtDv

Governor DeSantis is right. The GOP has adopted a culture of losing. That needs to change. We need to get back to winning, not whining! #DeSantis2024

Twitter spaces is new to a lot of people - so they had to figure out how to get access. Twitter said they had a lot of new sign ups last night. Honestly, I wanted to join but had to work - thankful that space was recorded and that Governor DeSantis is leading the way to a better…
