With just days left of his presidency, it's clear that Donald Trump is not going out without a bang. Yesterday, the 74-year-old politician became the first US President in history to be impeached twice. Not exactly the kind of accolade you want to leave office clutching.

Trump has been charged with "incitement of insurrection" over last week's storming of the Capitol building, in which five people died. Prior to the riot, Donald Trump made an hour-long speech at the White House, where he told a riled-up crowd: "We will never give up. We will never concede. It will never happen. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved. Our country has had enough. We will not take it anymore."

The House of Representatives has accused the president of encouraging violence with his unfounded claims of a fixed election. Now, he will go on trial in the Senate (which is now controlled by the opposing party, the Democrats). The outcome of this will determine whether he can ever run for public office again.

As onlookers watched the unprecedented scenes unfold, many had plenty to say. And where better to share it than on Donald Trump's own favourite social media platform, Twitter. (Well, at least it was his preferred platform before he became permanently suspended from it.)

Here are just some of the most entertaining takes on Trump's second impeachment...

And one extra special addition from Kelly Rowland herself over on Instagram...

If Donald Trump makes further history by becoming the first President of the United States to be convicted by the Senate (which requires two thirds to vote in favour) he will be disqualified from holding "any office of honour, trust or profit under the United States" in future. With incoming president Joe Biden being inaugurated on 20 January, Trump's impeachment trial will take place after he leaves the White House. So we'll just have to wait and see how that one unfolds...
