The much-hyped Twitter Space for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to launch his presidential campaign got off to a rocky start on Wednesday night.
Instead of a live announcement scheduled to start at 6 p.m. EST, users could only hear audio cutting in and out for about 20 minutes. A voice sounding like that of Twitter owner Elon Musk made comments like, “We’ve got just a massive of number people online so servers are straining somewhat.”
At 6:20 p.m., mobile Twitter users received an alert stating, “This Space had ended.”
Several minutes later, Musk’s Twitter account shared a new Space that had the audio working. DeSantis’ voice could be heard by about 6:25 p.m.
Minutes before that, another voice said, “We’ve got so many people here it’s kind of melting the servers, which is a good sign.”
The snafu drew mockery from President Biden, whose account tweeted a link to donate to his campaign with the message: “This link works.”
This is a developing story.
