Two arrested after 40-minute police chase in Henry County

NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A Richmond man was arrested late Tuesday after he allegedly led authorities on a 40-minute high-speed chase in Henry County.

According to a release from the Henry County Sheriff's Department, the pursuit began about 10 p.m. after a deputy observed a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck "commit multiple traffic infractions" in the area of 31st and Broad streets in New Castle.

New Castle police and Indiana State Police would also become involved in the chase. Deputies were eventually able to deploy stop stocks that flattened three of the truck's four tires.

The chase ended near Ind. 38 and the Henry-Wayne county line, although the truck's driver, 36-year-old Richard James Pippin, and his passenger, Brooke Renee Woods, 31, of New Castle, were not taken into custody until after a brief standoff, the release said.

Pippin was preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement in a vehicle and reckless driving. He was being held in the Henry County jail on Wednesday under a $10,000 surety bond and a cash bond of $800.

However, Pippin was also the target of a warrant issued last month in Henry Circuit Court 2, stemming from his August conviction in that court for possession of meth. There was also a warrant for his arrest in Darke County, Ohio.

Woods, preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement and assisting a criminal, was being held in the jail under a $9,000 surety bond and a cash bond of $1,585.

She was also the target of a warrant issued in Circuit Court 2, where she was convicted of unlawful possession of a syringe in June.
