Two arrested in alleged multi-county theft ring, one person is wanted

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Two arrests have been made in an alleged multi-county theft ring while one person is still wanted.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Jeff Cochran, there has been significant developments in an ongoing investigation into a local theft ring responsible for a wave of thefts across numerous surrounding counties.

Sheriff Cochran states that he believes that this operation, which has been ongoing for several months, culminated in a series of arrests that will end what he calls a “criminal enterprise.”

According to authorities, Shannon Swaney, 49, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Moya Shields, 50, of Chamblee, Georgia were arrested and charged while Tammie Ward, 54, of Tennille, Georgia, is also wanted in this case.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the arrested individuals will face charges related to their involvement in the theft ring, including the Georgia RICO Act, Owning, operating, or conducting a chop shop, multiple thefts, burglaries, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, and many other charges.

Authorities say that this is an ongoing investigation and more arrests are expected to be made.
