Two Arrested After Children Dangle From Glasgow Bridge in Climate Protest

A man and a woman were arrested, local media said, after a pair of children abseiled off the Clyde Arc bridge in Glasgow in a climate protest coinciding with the COP26 summit.

Kate Chambers, a trustee of the 2050 Climate Group, tweeted this video, showing the two young protesters holding a banner saying “Humanity is Failing”.

“Officers attended a peaceful protest near to the Clyde Arc this afternoon. A man aged 45 and woman aged 43 were arrested in connection with an alleged offence under the Children and Young Persons Act,” a spokesperson from Police Scotland told the Glasgow Times.

The young protesters go by Kletterkinder, or “climbing kids”, on Twitter. They tweeted a video from the incident, saying, “Zozo (10) and Kiwi (12)” were “abseiling under the Clyde Arc bridge … as a call to action against global warming.” Credit: Kate Chambers via Storyful
