Two men have been charged in the killing of a Gaston County young man.

Tyceria Larell Alexander, 20, of Gastonia, was shot and killed just before 4:30 p.m. on March 21.

Police were called to 12th Avenue, between Union Road and Anderson Street, outside Remedies Nightclub. They arrived to find Alexander dead at the scene.

On May 17, Gastonia Police charged Jontariyon Jackson, 18, of Kings Mountain, with first-degree murder.

Investigators didn’t make the arrest widely known while they sought a second suspect, hoping they could apprehend him without him fleeing, according to police.

Police have now picked up Marqwon Tiger Nixon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, police said.

He has since been extradited back to Gaston County where he had a first-appearance in court Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder.

Nixon, 20, of Gastonia, and Jackson are each being held without bond.

Alexander’s father, Charles Durham, said he can breathe a little easier knowing the men accused of killing his son are in custody.

“It means a whole lot. It's a big relief,” he said.

According to Alexander’s family, he had gotten back into school at Warlick Academy and was walking to a job interview at Wendy’s when he was shot and killed.

Durham said he was working when the shooting happened, and if he could turn back time, he would have given his son a ride.

Instead, he pulled up to the scene of the crime where he was overwhelmed with emotion and unable to get out of the car.

“I don’t wish this pain on nobody,” he said. “I lost family before but losing a kid, it’s like somebody taking your heart out.”

Durham said his son would have graduated from Ashbrook High School, and he planned to attend Gaston College. His schoolbooks showed up the day after he died, Durham said.

“Since childhood, he has always been full of life and showed love to everyone. Tyceria enjoyed playing basketball and football. Above all, Tyceria enjoyed spending time with his family laughing and telling jokes,” his obituary reads.

Durham praised the police for their hard work bringing in the men accused of killing his son.

To other parents, Durham said, “If you’ve got kids, hey, hold them tight.”
