Two attacked by knife-wielding man at bus stop in Pompano Beach

One man was pulled off his scooter and beaten, and another was stabbed at a bus stop in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Christopher Goodwin, 47, is facing a charge that was upgraded Friday to attempted first-degree murder as a result of the seemingly random attacks. He is being held in the Broward County Jail without bond, court records show.

According to the arrest report, the first attack happened about 1:20 a.m. Sept. 4 at 2669 W. Atlantic Blvd.

Goodwin walked up and sucker-punched Matthew Robbins, 36, while Robbins was sitting on a motor scooter near the bus stop. Robbins fell backward off the scooter and ran across the street to a gas station. Goodwin pulled out a knife and demanded money that he said he was owed.

Robbins noticed his scooter was gone and asked Goodwin where it went. Goodwin said, “These are my streets [and] if you want me to get your scooter back, get me my money,” the report stated.

Robbins panhandled about $12, but said someone hit him in the head with a brick and took the money. When Goodwin was told what happened he pulled out his knife and Robbins ran off. He was found collapsed in a field a few blocks away and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue took Robbins to Northwest Medical Center.

Goodwin threaten Alvin Brown, 45, who was sitting at the bus stop. “You’re in my seat,” Goodwin said, and started punching Brown but Brown fought back and overpowered Goodwin, saying, “I don’t want to hurt you,” the report stated.

Goodwin pulled out his knife and started stabbing Brown, who ran off. He was taken to North Broward Medical Center with knife wounds to his head, chest, back and a collapsed lung, detectives said.

Brown, Robbins, and several other witnesses waiting at the bus stop identified Goodwin from photographic line-ups.

The second man who allegedly hit Robbins with a brick was not identified or found.
