Two Bath properties to receive makeovers

Upgrades and improvements are coming in the near future to two Bath properties: a rental the township owns on Hickory Farm Lane in the Bath Nature Preserve, and a former residence at North Fork Preserve that could become a rental in the future.

The township's trustees recently approved $29,000 in contracts for work on the roof and tree services for the Everett Road property, called the North Fork Preserve of Bath, and nearly $33,000 in contracts for several renovations on the Hickory Farm Lane site.

A new roof and air conditioning were already added at the property at 1581 Hickory Farm Lane, said Vito Sinopoli, the township administrator.

"The home never had air conditioning, so that was added," Sinopoli said. "We’re also refinishing hardwood floors and renovating a bathroom in the home ... and just recently replaced the shingle roof." He added the property will hopefully be available for rentals by late June.

The property at North Fork Reserve, at 4400 Everett Road, also will get a new roof, plus work on the trees on the land.

Could state block illegal tracking? In Ohio you can legally use a tracking device on someone. That might change.

Once complete, Bath will consider using the facility as public meeting space.

"Once those improvements are complete, we hope to work with an architectural firm to develop drawings and further consider the feasibility of making interior improvements to the structure for public meeting space," Sinopoli said. "Because of the underlying ODNR Clean Ohio Grant that was used to acquire the Northfork property, there are a number of restrictions on the use of the meeting space. We would most likely be unable to rent the proposed facility, but we could offer it for use to community groups."

The township also plans to lay out trails near the Everett Road property, Sinopoli said. However, the project has been delayed by the wet spring as well as the unexpected death of Parks Director Alan Garner on March 31.

"Much of the forested area remains quite damp due to rainy weather conditions, and although rough trails for the triple loop have been cleared of trees and brush, the nature surface remains incomplete," Sinopoli said. "Once things dry out, we hope to reevaluate and develop a long-term plan for the loop trails."
