Two Berks boys tennis doubles teams reach District 3 semifinals

May 12—Two Berks boys doubles teams advanced to the semifinals at the District 3 Tennis Championships Friday at Hershey Racquet Club.

Exeter's Teddy Snyder and Jake Tryanski won two matches in Class 3A, while Conrad Weiser's Armaan Malik and Jio Garcia won twice in Class 2A to reach Saturday's 1 p.m. semifinals at Hershey Racquet Club.

The finals and third-place matches in both classes will follow.

In Class 3A, Snyder and Tryanski, who are seeded third, defeated Kurt Chiong and Jake Palandjian 5-7, 7-6 (4), 7-5 in the first round, then beat Reading High's Zach Schrader and Joel Rodriguez 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to clinch a berth in states.

Schrader and Rodriguez had beaten Donegal's Akilan Murugesan and Landon Keller 7-6, 6-3 in the first round.

Snyder and Tryanski also defeated Schrader and Rodriguez 6-2, 7-5 to win the BCIAA Flight 1 doubles title.

Also Friday in the first round, Daniel Boone's Sam Shank and Evan Miller lost to top-seeded Aidan Mahaffey and Tyler Mahaffey of Palmyra 6-0, 6-1, and Wilson's Ben Winkler and Austin Kohler were beaten by Cumberland Valley's Sami Kazi and Ross Kugler 6-0, 1-6, 6-1.

In Class 2A, Malik and Garcia, who are seeded second, defeated Annville-Cleona's Sam Domencic and Jared Hostetter 6-3, 6-2 in the first round, then beat Kutztown's Blake Nolte and Otis Engel 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals.

Nolte and Engel had beaten James Buchanan's Luke Helman and Ty Grove 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.

In other first-round matches, Weiser's Eric Yazembowski and Reed Kopcik lost to third-seeded Carson Weigle and Julian Clark of Lancaster Country Day 6-3, 6-0, and Wyomissing's Truman Peters and Max Herr fell to Hanover's Brian Corona and Charlie Zitto 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.

Malik and Garcia will face Weigle and Clark in the semifinals.

The top three finishers advance to states.
