Two boats were involved in a crash that left a teenager dead along the Georgia-South Carolina border, officials said.

At least two others were injured in the collision on Sunday, May 22, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office said it responded at about 1:50 p.m. near the Carters Ferry Boat Ramp. The ramp is on Lake Hartwell, a popular destination for water activities roughly 115 miles northeast of Atlanta.

While at the scene, officials reported discovering that a person who had been riding in a bass boat alone had died. The person was identified as 17-year-old Eric David Beasley of Canton.

Beasley’s boat had been in a crash with another boat that had six people on board, including two who were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to deputies and state officials.

An investigation could take up to eight weeks, Georgia officials wrote in a news release..
