According to the department, the officers responded to a serious crash in October, along with Randall County deputies. As the officers approached the accident, they noticed a vehicle was on fire with a person still inside, unconscious. The officers with deputies on the scene broke the window and removed the driver from the vehicle to bring them to safety.

Canyon Police Chief Steve Brush commended the two men on their extraordinary effort in reacting to the crash and exemplifying the best qualities of what a police officer should be.

"We are so proud of the quick, decisive, and effective actions of our officers and the deputies on scene," said Brush.
