Two-car crash near Crary, North Dakota, results in injuries

Jan. 10—CRARY, N.D. — A two-car crash near Crary resulted in multiple injuries, but all appear to be non-life-threatening, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at 6:50 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, seven miles southwest of Crary on U.S. Highway 2. A 2012 Hyundia Santa Fe driven by Peyton Olonia, 20, of Foxholm, North Dakota, was driving east on Highway 2 when it struck a 1998 Buick Regal driven by Randy Poitra, 64, of Dunseith, North Dakota.

The Regal had slowed to make a turn when it was hit from behind by the Santa Fe, according to the Highway Patrol. In the Regal were four passengers: Shelby Tetrault, 27, of Dunseith; Randy Poitra Jr., 35, of Devils Lake; Darian Henry, 28, of Dunseith, and an unnamed 14-year-old.

The Highway Patrol report said that "the passengers and driver of the Regal and Santa Fe were transported by Lake Region Ambulance Services to CHI-St. Alexius Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries."

Olonia faces charges of failure to maintain control-distracted driving, according to the NDHP.
