A fire that broke out Wednesday morning caused about $500,000 damage to a home in Anderson.

A home was seriously damaged and two cats were killed in a fire in Anderson on Wednesday morning.

The fire in the 3500 block of Inkwood Drive in Anderson was reported at about 6:15 a.m., according to the Anderson Fire Department.

The first crews that arrived reported heavy fire in the garage and front door area. They requested additional crews from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the city of Redding Fire Department, officials said in a news release.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond the one home involved in the blaze, officials said.

Three residents and their three dogs were able to safely escape from the home, but they were displaced by the fire, officials said. But two cats perished in the flames, officials said.

Shasta County Sheriff Michael Johnson said two jail deputies were on their way to work when they saw the burning building. They got to the home before fire crews and were able to help a woman get out of the house, he said on a Facebook post.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the fire did an estimated $500,000 in damage, the fire department said.
