Two Columbus residents were among those injured after a crash involving a taxi cab Monday afternoon in New York City.

According to New York City police, the crash occurred around 3 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Broadway and West 29th Street. Police said a yellow medallion cab was involved in a crash with a bicyclist and then continued onto a sidewalk, striking two women.

A total of six people, including the cab driver, were taken to the hospital.

Police said at a news conference Sunday afternoon that 15 to 20 people attempted to lift the taxi off the women and offered assistance.

Two of the people who were injured were from Columbus, Mayor Andrew J. Ginther's office confirmed.

"Mayor (Eric) Adams reached out to Mayor Ginther regarding the two Columbus residents struck by a taxi in New York City yesterday to offer assistance in helping the family navigate travels to New York," Ginther's office said in a statement. "We ask the community to keep those injured and their loved ones in their prayers following this horrific crash."

Three of the people hospitalized were in critical condition, including a 48-year-old woman from Columbus who had a leg injury, according to ABC7 in New York.

No other immediate updates about the women were available. Their identities have not been released. Ginther's office said they would not release the names of those involved from Columbus.
