Two crashes at same site in Rolette County, North Dakota, result in injuries

Jan. 5—DUNSEITH, N.D. — Two crashes occurred at the same site early Thursday morning, Jan. 4, in Rolette County near Dunseith.

According to a release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the first crash occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Highway 3, approximately 12 miles south of Dunseith. It happened when a 2008 Mack Truck driven by Lloyd Simcock, 70, of Manitoba, left the roadway and came to rest in the west ditch.

Two vehicles then stopped to help. Soon thereafter, a 2001 Ford Taurus that was northbound rear-ended one of the vehicles that had stopped to help. The cars that had stopped were unoccupied at the time of the crash. Two people in the Taurus — driver Steven Johnson, 43, of Rolla, and passenger Corey Poitra, 27, of Dunseith — suffered minor injuries and were transported to medical centers in Belcourt and Rolla.

Simcock's injuries are more serious. He was taken to a hospital in Rugby.

Seatbelts were not in use in the Mack truck or in the Taurus, according to the Highway Patrol.
