A 48-year-old woman died from critical injuries after a car drove into her apartment building early Saturday morning.

According to a Sunday report from the Wilmington Police Department, 48-year-old Kelly Prince, of Wilmington, succumbed to her injuries at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The state of a second victim, Luis Rodrigues, has been upgraded to a serious condition.

Officers responded to reports of a car versus building incident just before 3 a.m. Saturday at Hawthorne Commons apartment homes at the 4900 block of Tarheel Court.

Police found a car had driven into an apartment where a couple was living. The victims were transported by EMS to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and are in critical condition

Walter Wade Ange, 23, of Wilmington, was arrested and charged with felony hit and run resulting in death, felony hit and run resulting in serious injury, reckless driving to endanger, and a stop sign violation. Ange is currently in the New Hanover County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this difficult time," stated Lt. Leslie Irving, public information officer.
