Two dead, four wounded during overnight shooting near North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University

Two people were killed and and four more were wounded during a shooting in North Carolina Tuesday night.

The violence began around 11:30 p.m. in Greensboro, on Circle Drive, near East Bessemer and Summit avenues, Fox 8 reported. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims died from their injuries.

Police said another four people were shot, all of whom have since been hospitalized.

The shooting unfolded not far from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The historically Black university, just after midnight, issued an Aggie Alert, a texting system used by school officials to alert students to emergencies and dangerous weather.

Officials sent out another alert around 5 a.m., asking people to avoid Circle Drive, Castlewood Drive and Palmetto St.

While the shooting did not occur on campus, police said it was near an apartment complex that often serves as off-campus housing for some students. It comes just days before thousands of people are expected to flood the area for the school’s homecoming weekend.
