Two dead, including pregnant woman, after crash on I-390; others injured

Two people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and 11 others were injured in a crash in the town of Wayland on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. on I-390, according to New York State Police. Troopers said three families were traveling in a van from Norristown, Pennsylvania, to Niagara Falls for a vacation.

One boy died at the scene, while a pregnant woman was taken to an area hospital where she died from her injuries, troopers said. Her baby was successfully delivered and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, troopers said. The remaining injured victims were also taken to various area hospitals for treatment.

Troopers said the van was traveling north on I-390 when an issue with the rear passenger tire led to the driver losing control. The van veered onto the west shoulder of the road and then onto a median, resulting in a rollover crash.

The identities of the victims were not released.

Wayland, NY, is about an hour south of Rochester.

The investigation is ongoing.
