Two dead, others injured after crash near Grand Ledge

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the direction of travel of the Ford Escape based on information from the Michigan State Police. The vehicle was eastbound.

ONEIDA TWP. — Two people are dead after a Monday morning two-vehicle crash west of Grand Ledge.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Mt. Hope Highway and Cochran Road about 11:07 a.m. and involved a Ford Escape and Dodge Ram pickup.

The Ford Escape, eastbound on Mt. Hope Highway, entered the intersection and failed to yield to the pickup traveling south on Cochran Road, Michigan State Police said in a post on Twitter.

"The Ford Escape was struck by the pickup on the driver’s side door," they said on Twitter.

Investigators said two people in the Ford Escape died — a 75-year-old male driver and a 78-year-old woman passenger from Grand Ledge. Neither of the deceased's identity has been released yet, state troopers said.

An undisclosed number of people who had been traveling in the Dodge Ram pickup were taken to a hospital for injuries.

A message seeking further information was left with Lt. Rene Gonzalez, the agency's public information officer.
