Two deaths west of Sioux Falls in August ruled a murder-suicide, sheriff's office says

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office announced that the deaths of two people who were were found inside and outside of an RV just west of Sioux Falls have been ruled a homicide and suicide.

Deputies and emergency responders arrived at the scene at about 11:45 a.m. Aug. 18 off of Highway 38 after receiving a call for a wellbeing check when the men had not been heard from over the course of a few days.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found the bodies of the men, both in their mid-40s, outside and inside a camper. At least one of them was living in the camper, the sheriff's office said at the time.

The men were identified as Jason Michael Lucas, 45, of South Dakota and Iowa, and Jason Wayland Blunt, 46, of Iowa, according to the Argus Leader.

Capt. Josh Phillips said Monday the incident was ruled a homicide and a suicide

Lucas was found outside the camper with multiple stab wounds while Blunt was found inside the locked camper. His cause of death was ruled suicide by overdose of prescription medicine and meth, Phillips said.

It was previously reported the men had been in a fight with one another and had sustained serious knife injuries.
