Two fires Sunday morning in Abilene three blocks apart

Abilene firefighters Sunday responded to two house fires approximately three blocks apart in north-central Abilene.

The first call to the Abilene Fire Department came at 6:20 a.m. - a structure fire in the 1100 block of Plum Street. Firefighters found a storage building at the rear of a home on fire, which was extending to another storage building. The fire was contained to the first building, which was a total loss.

A heater was found to be the cause of the fire.

A fire Sunday morning destroyed a building at the corner of Pine and North 12th streets north of downtown. The cause is undetermined. There were no reported injuries.

Damage estimate is $10,000.

At 6:40 a.m., a structure fire in the 1100 block of Pine Street was reported. A house was engulfed in flames. Nearby houses were protected from the blaze.

There were no occupants at home.

Damage estimate is $85,000, and the fire is being investigated.
