Two flown to Harborview following head-on crash in Belfair on Sunday

BELFAIR — Two people were flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Sunday after a wrong-way driver hit another vehicle head-on while traveling on Highway 300 near Belfair, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A 31-year-old Bremerton man driving a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis was headed westbound on Highway 300 in the eastbound lane of travel at NE Sand Hill Road just after 12:30 p.m., according to a memo released by the State Patrol. The car crashed head-on into a 2019 Ford Escape headed eastbound driven by a 30-year-old Gig Harbor woman.

The drivers in both vehicles were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. A 27-year-old man who was a passenger in the Ford Escape was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to the Washington State Patrol, and it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

The roadway was fully closed for about 4 1/2 hours following the crash, according to State Patrol.
