Two former Miami Hurricanes earn linebacker spots in NFL 100’s All-Time Team

The University of Miami’s legacy of producing elite talent just got a big stronger.

Two former Hurricanes — Ray Lewis and Ted Hendricks — were named to the NFL 100 All-Time Team, the league announced Friday night. Of the 12 linebackers chosen, no school was represented more than once thanks to the two Hall of Famers.

Lewis earned All-American honors in 1994 and 1995, his only two years at Miami. The Baltimore Ravens then selected Lewis in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft where he spend the entirety of his 17-year career. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Lewis is the only player in NFL history with 40 sacks and 30 interceptions.

Hendricks’ name is littered throughout record books. Nicknamed “The Mad Stork” for his 6-7 height, the defensive-end-turned-outside linebacker is a three-time All-American who holds the record for most sacks in Miami history. He was picked in the second round of the 1969 draft and spent 15 seasons in the league with the Baltimore Colts, Green Bay Packers and the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders.

The Guatemalan-born, Hialeah High graduate finished his career with four Super Bowls and eight Pro Bowls.

Tune in Friday Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. on NFL Network to see which defensive backs and special teams players make the list.
