Two found dead in Wolf River home were married couple; person of interest in custody

WOLF RIVER - Two people found dead in a Wolf River home Saturday were husband and wife, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

David A. Metzig, 72, and Jan C. Metzig, 71, were discovered in their home at 5:15 a.m. Saturday. Their deaths are considered suspicious, the sheriff's office said.

The Metzigs were longtime business owners in the area. They owned and operated Union Star Cheese Factory in Fremont for over 30 years.

A person of interest was taken into custody from the Heart of the Valley YMCA in Kimberly at around 7:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the Fox Valley Metro Police Department. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office declined to identify the person of interest, pending their initial court appearance.

Wolf River is south of Fremont on the north shore of Lake Poygan.
