Two hospitalized with 'significant' injuries after crash at site of last week's fatality

SANFORD, Maine — Two people were hospitalized Monday, following a collision on Route 4 at the same intersection where a woman died in another traffic accident last week.

Sanford Assistant Fire Chief Rick Smith said the two individuals suffered “significant” injuries in the two-car crash at the intersection of Channel Lane. One victim was brought to Southern Maine Health Care’s campus in Sanford, while the other was brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland, according to Smith.

The accident involved an SUV and a pickup truck and occurred at a little before 8 a.m.

None of the other passengers in the two cars required any treatment, according to Smith.

First-responders from Acton, Lebanon and Alfred provided station coverage while local personnel responded to the scene. Smith said personnel cleared the scene of the accident at around 9:30 a.m.

The Sanford Police Department could not be reached for comment.

The accident on Monday is the second one at the corner of Route 4 and Channel Lane in eight days.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, Ann Sinclair, 32, of Wells, died in a collision when an eastbound Jeep Wrangler, driven by Cody Michaud, 32, of Sanford, struck her in her Scion xA head-on.

Michaud was brought to Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Last week, Sanford Police Lt. Matthew Gagne said authorities were continuing their investigation into the accident and were working with the district attorney’s office on the matter.
