Two-hour standoff on Stock Island ends in arrest, police say
A 34-year-old Stock Island man held police at bay for two hours Wednesday after barricading himself inside a trailer, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Anglin at 4:30 p.m. surrendered to police, coming out of the trailer at Roy’s Trailer Park with his arms raised, and was arrested.
Anglin was booked into the Stock Island Detention Center, where he remained Thursday without bond.
He was wanted on a warrant in an Aug. 22, 2020, armed robbery, which also happened at the trailer park off Maloney Avenue on Stock Island.
Anglin was not armed, said Adam Linhardt, the sheriff’s office spokesman.
At about 2:30 p.m., sheriff’s office Detective Boyd Williams tried to serve Anglin with the warrant, but Anglin ran into a trailer and barricaded himself, Linhardt said.
The sheriff’s office heard that Anglin was not armed, but deputies and detectives still cordoned off portions of the park.
The sheriff’s office and Key West Police Department Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene. Key West police also brought K9 Units.
The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was put on alert but did not enter the trailer as Anglin peacefully exited at about 4:30 p.m. with his arms raised, police said.
Anglin was taken into custody without incident.
“I’m happy to report that no one was injured and this dangerous criminal has been taken off our streets,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
The case against Anglin began Aug. 22 when a former girlfriend reported she was robbed by Anglin, Kenyatta Eugene Scott Jr., 28, of Marathon, and a third suspect who hasn’t been identified, Linhardt said.
The alleged victim said she gave up her $650 Coach backpack to the robbers after Anglin brandished a butcher’s knife and threatened to kill her and her children, Linhardt said.
The woman was not seriously injured in the attack.
Scott was arrested Sept. 11. Police are still searching for the third suspect.
