Two injured in Monday crash on Levering Road

CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — The drivers in a two-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon in Munro Township were both injured and one needed to be extricated from their vehicle.

According to the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred at 1:03 p.m. on Levering Road near Heilman Road.

A 72-year-old woman from Cheboygan driving a 2017 Buick Envision was traveling west on Levering Road and began to make a left turn onto Heilman Road. She turned in front of a semi-truck pulling an asphalt trailer that was traveling east, driven by a 52-year-old man from Cheboygan. The vehicles collided, and the impact forced both vehicles off the roadway.

The driver of the Buick was extricated from her vehicle by the Inverness Fire Department. She was transported by ambulance to McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey for serious injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck was also transported to McLaren Northern Michigan with minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation.
