Two injured in three-vehicle crash on NC 87 near Harnett-Lee line

Nov. 3—Two people were injured Tuesday in a three-vehicle crash on N.C. 87 in Harnett County near the Lee County line, according to the Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened at 7:25 p.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Swann Station roads and backed up traffic in the southbound lanes of NC 87, according to investigating Trooper J. Burton.

Brandon Frye, 36, whose address was not available, was traveling south toward Sanford in a Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a flat trailer.

"The truck with the trailer drove through the intersection and struck the other two vehicles," Burton said.

Frye's truck collided with two vehicles in the northbound lanes, both stopped for the red light.

Upon impact, Frye truck hit the front of a Nissan passenger car, driven by Christopher Martinez of Texas, crumpling the hood, and leaving it at an angle partially in the turn lane for Swann Station Road.

The second vehicle was a Dodge Ram 250 pickup truck driven by Allen Eriksen of Sanford. The Dodge came to rest, facing south, its bed upended and partially atop Frye's vehicle.

The crash caused a traffic backup in the northbound lanes.

Frye and Martinez were taken to Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg for treatment of injuries, Burton said.

The crash remains under investigation, Burton said. No charges have been filed.
