Two Jackson County Detention Center employees get stuck in elevator

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Detention Center staff members got stuck in an elevator on Saturday morning.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. when the elevator stopped working between two floors with the two employees inside.

The Kansas City Fire Department responded to the scene and rescued the two employees without injury.

An elevator service technician came to the scene to fix the issue.

This incident comes less than a month after ransomware attack led to phone lines and elevators being down at the Jackson County jail.

There was also a failed fire inspection less than three weeks ago. A new detention center is expected to be built in 2026.
