Two Kentucky artists top CMA nominations for Vocalist of the Year and more

The nominees for the 56th annual Country Music Association Awards were announced Wednesday, and once again, the state of Kentucky is well represented.

Chris Stapleton and Carly Pearce have each been nominated for multiple CMA Awards including Male and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Considered the biggest night in country music, The Country Music Awards was first held in 1967 and recognizes nominees and winners who are selected by more than 6,000 industry professional members of the Country Music Association. The 2022 CMA will be held on Wednesday, Nov 9.

Here are the nominations for each artist:

Pearce, 32, grew up in Taylor Mill, Kentucky, and has an outline of the Bluegrass State tattooed on her right wrist. She received five nods from the CMA association for the 56th awards show including:

  • Female Vocalist of the Year

  • Music Video of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)

  • Musical Event of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)

  • Single of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)

  • Song of the Year (“Never Wanted To Be That Girl”)

Pearce adds these five nominations to her prior seven. She is the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year and returning in 2022 to compete for her second win in the category. “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” earns Pearce her first nomination in Single of the Year and her second nomination in Music Video, Musical Event, and Song of the Year categories.

A native of Staffordsville, Kentucky, Stapleton, 45, was quick to pitch in when devasting floods overtook parts of Eastern Kentucky this summer. Stapleton is nominated for five 2022 CMA Awards including:

  • Entertainer of the Year

  • Male Vocalist of the Year

  • Music Video of the Year (“I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”)

  • Single of the Year (“You Should Probably Leave”)

  • Song of the Year (“You Should Probably Leave”)

Counting this year's five nods, Stapleton has amassed 39 CMA career nominations. He is a six-time nominee for Entertainer of the Year and an eight-time nominee for Male Vocalist, a category he has won five times.

Prior to the CMA Awards which will air Wednesday, Nov. 9, on ABC and will be hosted by Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning, Stapleton will headline the 2022 Bourbon & Beyond Music Festival, Sunday, Sept 18 at the Highlands Festival Grounds in Louisville. Pearce will open for Blake Shelton at KFC YUM! Center on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
