Two killed in head-on collision in eastern Fresno County, CHP says. One was ejected
Two people were killed Tuesday when a Jeep and truck collided head-on on Highway 180 in eastern Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said.
A man was driving a Jeep Liberty headed east on Highway 180 with a passenger about 11:20 a.m. between Alta and Frankwood avenues, CHP spokesman Mike Salas said.
The Jeep was traveling a high rate of speed and the driver allowed it to cross the center yellow lines in front of a Chevrolet truck towing a utility trailer. The Chevy was carrying a man and two children — one 16 and the other 4, CHP said.
The vehicles collided head-on, ejecting the unrestrained Jeep driver. Salas said.
The man died at the scene.
A restrained woman in the Jeep had critical injuries and was flown to Community Regional Medical Center, where she later died.
The driver of the Chevrolet sustained moderate injuries. The 16-year-old and 4-year-old were not injured, but were also taken to CRMC for observation.
Highway 180 was closed as authorities investigated the crash.
