Two killed in Raceland crash

Two people were killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday night near Raceland, State Police said.

The crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on La. 182 at the intersection with U.S. 90. The names of those who died are not being released pending family notification, authorities said.

A 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling west on La. 182 while at the same time a 2017 Ram 3500 was traveling east. The Silverado attempted to make a left turn onto U.S. 90 West but failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by the Ram, police said.

The driver of the Silverado was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries, authorities said. Two of the Silverado’s passengers suffered fatal injuries and a third was hospitalized with serious injuries. None were wearing seat belts.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from both drivers.

The crash remains under investigation.

Troop C, which covers Lafourche, Terrebonne and Assumption parishes and the west banks of St. James and St. John parishes, has so far investigated 40 fatal crashes this year resulting in 55 deaths.
