Two local BPW members win state competitions

COLUMBUS − Ohio Business and Professional Women recently held their Individual Development (ID) and Young Careerist (YC) Competitions at the Clintonville Women’s Club.

Seven Coshocton BPW members attending were President Liz Herrell, Treasurer Wendy Bowman, Aimee Neighbor, YC winner Tyler Maple, ID winner Katie Hultz, Tomma Bordenkircher and Secretary Raine Hammond.

ID competitors must take the individual development course within three years of the competition. Judging was based on three phases of competition: a 5-minute prepared speech, a 2-minute impromptu speech and a 10-minute interview. Hultz won the competition. She previously worked at WTNS Radio and is currently building her baking business, Katie Bakes. She and her husband, Craig, share five adult children and six grandchildren. She volunteers in the community for causes supporting children, families with disabilities, education or domestic violence awareness. She recently turned her focus to mental health awareness.

The Virginia Allen Young Careerist program recognizes the accomplishments of young, upcoming community leaders and it provides them with professional development and networking opportunities. Candidates are judged in the following areas: a 4-minute prepared speech that relates to topics or issues that are relevant to working women, written and biographical information and an interview with judges to see a candidate's ability to be a mentor and help others achieve. Tyler Maple won this compeition. He is the store leader of Rite Aid in Coshocton, where he manages all facets of day-to-day store operations. He is also the founder and coordinator of Coshoctonians for Bodily Autonomy. He is a member of the Coshocton Democratic Party and Plainfield Masonic Lodge 224. He has been active as a volunteer with the Coshocton Visitors Bureau and Our Town Coshocton. He has attended Ohio University and Central Ohio Technical College.
