Two men charged with kidnapping in Strom Thurmond Lake death investigation

Two men have been arrested in connection to the death of a 24-year-old Grovetown man in August.

Thomas Berry was found dead at Strom Thurmond Lake on Aug. 31.

Flomo Tyrone Gbelewala, 32, of Rancho Cordova, California, is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault and possession of marijuana in connection to the incident, according to jail records.

Dezmond Moran, 28, of Augusta, last month was arrested in connection to the incident and is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, trafficking marijuana, possession of a firearm or knife during a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute.

What we know about Berry's death

On Aug. 31, Berry was found in McCormick, South Carolina where he was later pronounced dead, according to an incident report.

Investigators found Moran and Gbelewala were responsible for the death of Berry by transporting him against his will from Moran's home address, on the 1800 block of Thompson Drive in Augusta, according to the report.
