Unlicensed driver arrested after two men killed in Broward County hit-and-run crash
MONDAY UPDATE STORY: Man arrested after double fatal hit-and-run had a hit-and-run in 2019.
A hit-and-run killed two men in Pompano Beach early Sunday morning, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Pompano resident Evil Danilo Morataya Perez, 24, sits in Broward Main Jail on two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and two counts of driving on suspended license when in a crash involving death and serious injury. There’s also an immigration hold on Morataya Perez.
BSO said they found the two men, who had been on a Honda scooter, in the northbound lanes in the 1200 block of South Dixie Highway. Video from WSVN-Channel 7 showed scooter parts scattered around the covered bodies.
The sheriff’s office also said a Toyota Camry driver caused the damage by rear-ending the scooter around 6:41 a.m., and that a tip led them to the Camry at 10:30 a.m. That’s when they arrested Morataya Perez.
The victims’ relatives need to be notified before their names are released.
