Two Italian men have been arrested after posing as George Clooney to promote a fashion business, after two years on the run.

The Hollywood star sued the pair in a 2010 trial in Italy and testified against them after they fraudulently used his name.

Francesco Galdelli, 58, and Vanja Goffi, 45, are also accused of committing various other scams and fraudulent crimes in Italy.

Dubbed the 'Italian Bonnie and Clyde' after the notorious American bank robbers, they fled their home country to avoid arrest and have sustained their life in Thailand by selling fake Rolex watches online.

The pair would sometimes mock their victims by sending packets of salt instead of the fake watches, reports Yahoo! News.

They were arrested over the weekend in a joint operation of Thai and Italian authorities. During an interrogation 'Francesco confessed to claiming to be George Clooney and opening a clothes business to trick people into sending money,' according to BBC.

Pattaya, the Thai town they were found in, is known for being a popular hideout for gangsters and criminals from around the world.

Galdelli and Goffi will be charged for overstaying their visas before proceedings begin.
