Two men, woman arrested after multi-city chase and carjacking attempt: Police

GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Authorities arrested two men and a woman after a multi-city chase and attempted carjacking that ended in Dallas late Thursday night.

Gaston County Police arrested Jaquis Rahmad Smith, 23, Bryan Quiterio, 19, and Madison Deon Jones, 20. Officers arrested Quiterio in the parking lot of an Ingles grocery store near the intersection of U.S. 321 and N.C. 275 in Dallas. Smith and Jones were arrested minutes later by officers near the Captain’s Quarters Apartments, adjacent to U.S. 321.

Police say Smith and Jones forced an elderly woman to begin driving them away before officers were able to stop the car and arrest the group. The woman was not hurt in the incident.

Charlotte authorities sought Smith on multiple warrants, including for stealing a vehicle from an Enterprise Rent-A-Car dealership in January. Around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Lowell Police saw Smith driving the car and began a pursuit along Interstate 85 southbound.

Gaston County Police, along with assistance from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s helicopter and Dallas Police, continued to pursue the vehicle as it headed north along U.S. 321. Smith, Quiterio, and Jones fled the car after wrecking it near the U.S. 321 and N.C. 275.

Smith faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, as a result of his attempt to get away from police. He was already facing felony charges on six Mecklenburg and Gaston counties warrants combined. Gastonia, Dallas, Lowell, and Charlotte-Mecklenburg police departments were all involved in charging on the case.
