LAS CRUCES - Former New Mexico State pitcher Ian Mejia became the 67th baseball player from New Mexico State to be drafted.

Mejia was selected No. 335 overall (11th round) by the Atlanta Braves in the MLB Draft on Tuesday.

Teammate Sammy Natera was selected six rounds later, at No. 508 overall, by the Los Angeles Angels.

Mejia was the ace on the Aggies staff in 2022. He was 6-4 on the mound with a 4.29 earned run average.

Mejia was key to the Aggies run to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance, saving his best performance for the regional.

Mejia pitched a gem against No. 3 national seed Oregon State, pitching 7 1/3 innings, striking out nine and allowing nine hits and four runs as the Aggies lost 5-4 in 10 innings.

Mejia was the sixth Aggies pitcher drafted since 2016 and this year's Draft is the first time since 2016 when two Aggies pitchers were selected in the same Draft.

Natera, from Juarez, was 2-1 in 26 innings as injuries shortened his season on the mound.

Aggies commits Nick Peoples and Milo Rushford were also selected on Tuesday. Peoples was selected in the 12th round by the Washington Nationals. Peoples is an outfielder from California. Rushford, an outfielder from Arizona, was selected in the 18th round by the Kansas City Royals.

Both players are expected to sign with their clubs and forego college.
