Two Morral residents killed when motorcycle strikes deer near Upper Sandusky

UPPER SANDUSKY — Two Morral residents were killed when their motorcycle struck a deer late Saturday on U.S. 23.

Robert Schrake Jr., 61, and Susan Schrake, 60, both of Morral were killed in the crash, according to a news release from the Bucyrus post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The crash, which happened on U.S. 23 just south of Wyandot Avenue, was reported to the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, according to the news release. Troopers from the patrol post responded and found a 1989 Yamaha motorcycle overturned on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes.

The motorcycle was being operated by Robert Schrake Jr. when it struck a deer, according to the release. Both Schrakes were ejected from the motorcycle, and both were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a helmet. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Wyandot County Sheriff's Office, the Upper Sandusky Police Department, Wyandot County EMS and Ohio Department of Transportation workers.
