Two N.C. women killed in crash in Sussex County

SUSSEX — Two North Carolina women were killed late Saturday afternoon when the car in which they were riding collided with a pick-up truck that was pulling a trailer.

The crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of state Routes 40 and 35 southwest of Waverly, state police Sgt. Michelle Anaya said. The driver of a Nissan Rogue had stopped at the intersection before pulling out in the path of an oncoming Ford Raptor F-150 and its trailer.

The truck hit the SUV on the driver’s side. The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway.

The SUV’s driver and passenger — Angela Fox Kenan, 59, and Phyllis Brown Graham, 73, both of Greensboro, North Carolina — were killed instantly. The truck driver, identified as Thomas Ford, suffered minor injuries.
