Two newcomers elected to Wilmington City Council

The Wilmington City Council will welcome two new faces while one incumbent kept his seat after Tuesday's municipal election.

With seven candidates and three seats available, newcomers David Joyner, with 8,538 votes, and Salette Andrews (8,099) were the top two vote getters. Current councilman Kevin Spears (7,982) finished third. All three are Democrats.

Fellow incumbent Neil Anderson finished fourth (7,064) to lose his seat, followed by John D. Lennon, Kathryn Bruner and Marlowe Foster.

"I am grateful for the Wilmington voters who put their trust in me and for my supporters and volunteers for all their hard work on my campaign," Andrews said. "I will work tirelessly to balance environmental protection, community safety, housing affordability and infrastructure to benefit all Wilmingtonians."
