Two Northumberland homes damaged in Monday evening fire

Nov. 21—NORTHUMBERLAND — Two homes along Hanover Street were damaged by fire Monday night.

According to Deputy Fire Chief Brian Ginck, the blaze started at 174 Hanover St. at about 7 p.m. Monday and quickly spread to 168 Hanover St., an adjacent house located about 10 feet away.

There were two residents in each of the homes who were able to escape as both homes sustained significant damage, he said.

Ginck did not know who reported the fire. An investigation to determine the cause will be held, he said.

At around 8 p.m. Monday night, the second floor of the home was charred and smoking as firefighters worked.

Fire companies from surrounding communities joined the Northumberland Fire Department and other first responders at the scene.

The first firefighters to arrive at the fire requested more help via a second alarm within just a few minutes of arriving, according to public 911 radio communications.
