Two Oakdale residents killed in high-speed crash into tree, home, CHP reports

Two Oakdale residents were killed in a high-speed crash into a tree and then a residence early Thanksgiving morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash of a 2016 white Ford Fusion on Greger Street west of Kaufman Road in Oakdale was reported shortly after 2 a.m., according to a CHP news release.

The preliminary investigation determined the driver, a 29-year-old man, was westbound on Greger at high speed when he failed to negotiate a turn and struck a raised curb. Google Maps indicates this would have been where there’s a center island on Greger at the east edge of the Sequoia Grove housing development.

After hitting the curb, the Fusion continued northwest and struck a tree and then a town home east of Wild Stallion Drive, according to the Modesto Fire Department. No one in the residence was hurt, the battalion chief incident summary says.

The CHP release says neither the driver nor his passenger — a 27-year-old whose gender is not given on the CHP release — was wearing a seat belt. Both were declared dead at the crash scene. Their names were withheld pending notification of family.

The CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs factored in the crash.
